![]() Q: Why did you start CrossFit? A: I had been going to a globo gym on my own and I didn’t really have an idea of what to focus on for the best results. Eventually I became bored with my workout routine and discouraged in lack of results. Q: Why Octane? A: Octane came highly recommended by a close friend and the first week being free was enough incentive to give it a shot! Q: Goals for the year? A: Improved mobility and building stamina/endurance for those burner WODs! Q: Any advice for the new members? A: Get to Octane and try it out as soon as you can ! The coaches are amazing. It is apparent that they genuinely want to see each member succeed, improve, and have fun. They are innovative, caring, and make every day at Octane a blast! The Octane community is like no other in my opinion (having tried others). I love that we workout together but also know how to have fun and give back locally. #GymFam. 📷 : @brookklynphoto

![]() Q: Why did you start CrossFit? A: I made a promise to myself to stop making excuses and to start living the way I wanted to each day. I’d always felt some aspects of CrossFit were ominously beyond my capabilities. It was time to take down that Goliath. Q: Why Octane? A: Initially, I had some friends who were members that strongly recommended it. I immediately grew to really love the coaching staff here. It’s a great community and they’re all genuinely inspiring in their own unique ways. Q: Goals for the year? A: I’d just like to become proficient in all of the fundamental techniques and lifts. Hoping to start 2019 strong by only jumping rope forwards instead my typical backwards singles. Q: Any advice for the new members? A: Patience! Everybody here is on a different path when it comes to their own fitness goals. Take your time, work towards developing good fundamentals, and understand training is a marathon not a sprint. The hardest part is just walking through that door those first couple times and solidifying that commitment to better yourself. Nobody here’s going to discourage you from pushing yourself to be better than you were the day before! 📷 : @brookklynphoto ![]() Q: Why did you start CrossFit? A: My brother recommended CrossFit. I have always been in sports and love to stay active. I wanted to find something that combined strength training and endurance and CrossFit was perfect. - Q: Why Octane? A: My first CrossFit coach and his wife moved and recommended Octane. I looked it up and decided to try it out. I’m really glad I did! Octane has amazing coaches and are active in the community. I love being around like minded people that strive on being the best and healthiest version of themselves. In addition, the owner Regan and the coaches are very personable and take the time to get to know everyone and their goals. Regan is a big advocate for nutrition and took the time to talk to me about my nutrition and how it affects pre-diabetes, after all you can’t outwork a bad diet. Since I started Octane I feel stronger, healthier and a boost of confidence that I did not have before. - Q: Goals for the year? A: My goals for the year are to stop over thinking and be better than yesterday. Also, I want to be able to do strict pull-ups and snatch my weight. - Q: Any advice for the new members? A: Listen to the coaches and trust the process. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, the coaches are there to help you succeed. - 📷 : @brooklynphoto ![]() Q: Why did you start CrossFit? A: I played baseball all throughout college. One aspect of playing collegiately was strength training and conditioning. I always loved this aspect, but still got my fix for competition on the baseball field. Once I graduated I needed to fill that competitive void and then discovered CrossFit while channel surfing and seeing the Games broadcast. It combined the strength and conditioning aspect of baseball, but also included a competitive component. I remember saying “Oh you just don’t stop moving, it can’t be that bad. It’s all mental.” Of course, I was wrong. The first day I destroyed myself with a 7 min AMRAP of 7 burpees and 7 wall balls but was instantly hooked. Now I’ve been going for five years. Q: Why Octane? A: I tried out most of the gyms in Phoenix before I found Octane. The 24/7 access drew me in even though I was a little worried I would spend too much time in the gym with that type of setup. The first day I came in I met Regan and we talked about some research we may want to do someday. I learned we shared a passion for solving the metabolic crisis going on in our society (the sign outside certainly clued me in as well). This was a main part of my choice to come to Octane, but the other part was the atmosphere and community. Every other gym I went to just didn’t seem like home, but after a week at Octane I knew I found my spot. Q: Goals for the year? A: I’ve started to shift my fitness goals as of late. It used to be all centered around competition and gearing up for the open. I’ve found lately that training solely for health is very rewarding, but mostly my goal is to be fit and have some fun in the process. Thinking up crazy workouts and trying them out is a blast and that’s pretty much all I’ve been doing lately. Q: Any advice for the new members? A: Ask questions. When I first started I was hesitant to ask about things that didn’t make sense or I thought I was already good at. Coaches are knowledgeable and are there to help you. Use their knowledge and have conversations about movements. You will progress a lot faster if you just open up and commit to learning. Also strive to be perfect at all your movements. You may not and probably won’t reach perfection, but the process of trying to get there is what it’s all about. Take pride in how you move and the effort you put in and you will see the results you want. Lastly, don’t take your performance too seriously. Don’t get caught up in the whiteboard, but instead focus on how your fitness has improved relative to your past self. That mindset is sustainable and meaningful, and you will enjoy your time at CrossFit a lot more if you adopt that outlook. 📷 : @brooklynphoto ![]() Q: Why did you start CrossFit? A: A while back I got some blood work done and I was very much in danger of being diabetic. After changing up my diet I almost immediately started noticing results in how I felt overall - but it just wasn't enough. I was still around 240lbs in April '18 and had passed by Octane several times. One day I just decided to send an information request into the Octane website and, almost a year and 50+ pounds later, I haven't looked back since. Q: Why Octane? A: You can get the same equipment or environment at just about any Crossfit gym. To me, Octane stands out because of its owners and coaches. As an example, I can show up to a different class WOD than I normally attend that requires pull-ups and a coach I haven't seen in a month will remember exactly what I was struggling with and what I can do this time to improve. All of the coaches push you to be your best version of yourself, because they know you can and have seen it happen in real time. The people there are alright, too ;). Q: Goals for the year? A: Being that I'm still in my first year of Crossfit I still have so much to learn. On a basic level, I definitely want to work on increasing my general strength - but I have designs on competing whenever I possibly can. I might not come out on top, but it will give me a goal to hit every single time. Q: Any advice for the new members? A: Have fun with it! If you've never done anything like this before, take everything as a learning experience and keep a positive attitude. You will ALWAYS get out of it what you put into it. A: I started Crossfit because I have always been an athlete/active but I struggled in my adult life to find something that I loved, so I thought I would try it. Turns out I loved it!!! Q: Why Octane? A: My brother Wes actually had been going to Octane for a few months already and loved everything about it. So I gave it a try. Regan really made me feel welcome and I felt that he and the other coaches really explained movements and taught me that correct form is more important than heavy weight. I quickly realized the community is seriously the best, and I love going to the gym to see everyone and watch them achieve their goals. We also hang out outside of the gym and help or volunteer together and I love that. We are a family!! Q: Goals for the year? A: I am focusing on gaining strength which takes a long time!! Also, want to get that strict pull-up too!!! Q: Any advice for the new members? A: My advice is to not rush into going super heavy and to focus on the correct form in lifts and to learn to pace yourself in all workouts, as this will help you become a better overall athlete! And to remember it's FUN!!!! 📸 @brookklynphoto ![]() Q: Why did you start CrossFit? A: I needed something that was going to motivate me. Going to the regular gym and going on the elliptical for 20 minutes wasn’t doing anything for me. I didn’t really know much about working out and what I needed to do to start seeing changes I wanted to see. So, joining CrossFit was a great way to know what to do when working out. Q: Why Octane? A: I joined Octane after switching from another CrossFit gym because I felt more included here. With the previous gym, I never spoke with the owner and the coaches were hard to connect with. The owner at Octane made an effort to connect with me and would spark a conversation when I was working out alone when I was new. I can tell the owner loved his gym and wanted to include everyone, which is amazing when you’re an introvert. Q: Goals for the year? A: My goal for this upcoming year is to be able to Snatch my body weight, so adding an additional 40 pounds. Yikes! Q: Any advice for the new members? A: Trust the process. It sucks at first (like, a lot!) but it gets easier! Once you see changes, whether it’s your physical appearance or endurance, you’ll be hooked! (The first rule of CrossFit is to talk about CrossFit). 📷 : @brookklynphoto ![]() Q: Why did you start #CrossFit? A: Crossfit is a great way to meet people in your community! I've moved around a lot, so Crossfit is an easy way to meet new people and make friends. Q: Why Octane? A: Octane gives me everything I look for in a #training facility, quality #coaching, a #community of like-minded people, and challenging #workouts that push me (often, more than I want to be pushed). Q: Goals for the year? A: To constantly work towards something, whether that's fostering relationships or self-improvement- improving myself physically, mentally, and spiritually. Q: Any advice for the new members? A: Don't let yourself get overwhelmed! It can be challenging to have a bit of restraint when first starting crossfit. You don't have to go ALL IN and RX everything. It will only lead to injuries and frustration.Try taking small steps...pick 1 or 2 movements and work on those. Once you've got those down, then move on to something else! There will always be something to get better at :) 📷 : @brookklynphoto ![]() Q: Why did you start CrossFit? A: I was tired of spending hours at a gym on cardio machines and still feeling out of shape. I was still short of breath after climbing a single flight of stairs. The first time I watched the games I was actually at my original gym. I saw people flipping things, running, climbing ropes and lift heavy weights. I knew I had to try it. Q: Why Octane? A: I drove past Octane a few times before I finally stopped in to check it out. That is when I met Reagan and we talked about health, cancer, diabetes, diets and fitness. Octane is like a second home, the members have become my family. Q: Goals for the year? A: Maybe this will be the year I defeat gravity and master Double Unders and maybe a little Ring muscle up action. Q: Any advice for the new members? A: Do not let anything intimidate you, don’t be afraid to scale the workouts and movements and yes, it will hurt but it’s the good kind of hurt and most of all have fun. 📷 : @brookklynphoto ![]() Q: Why did you start #CrossFit? A: I started CrossFit to get a more efficient #workout. Q: Why Octane? A: Regan was my neighbor when Octane first started up, and my wife started going to Octane and she encouraged me to go with her. Q: Goals for the year? A: I have 3 goals for this: 1) Ring Muscle ups 2) Build my real estate business 3) Be present to my wife and daughter. Q: Any advice for the new members? A: Work hard and listen to your body. 📷: @brookklynphoto |
